Let’s Talk PMS — Because You Deserve to Feel Better

As a physician, I’ve had countless conversations with women who feel frustrated, overwhelmed, or just plain exhausted by the symptoms of PMS. It’s more than just “that time of the month” — it’s a real, physiological experience, often caused by hormonal imbalances like elevated estrogen or low progesterone.

At LVWellness & Aesthetics, my goal is always to approach health from a whole-body, personalized perspective. And while every woman’s experience is unique, there are a few natural supplements I consistently recommend to help ease PMS symptoms and support hormonal balance.

Here are my top four:

1. Magnesium — The Calming Mineral

Magnesium, especially in the form of magnesium glycinate, is one of the most underrated tools for managing PMS. Taken at night (200–400 mg is a good starting dose), it helps relax your nervous system, ease bloating, and reduce mood swings. I often suggest starting magnesium a week or two before your cycle begins. Many women find that it improves both sleep and emotional regulation — two things that can take a hit during PMS.

2. Vitamin B6 — The Natural Mood Supporter

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is another key nutrient I recommend, particularly for its role in supporting progesterone levels and easing common PMS symptoms like irritability, breast tenderness, and emotional highs and lows. A dose of 50–100 mg daily, starting a week or two before your period, can make a meaningful difference. While it’s found in foods like chicken and fish, supplementing is often necessary to get therapeutic results.

3. Chasteberry — A Time-Tested Herbal Ally

Also known as Vitex, Chasteberry has been used for centuries to support female hormone health. It works by influencing the pituitary gland, encouraging natural progesterone production, and helping regulate the menstrual cycle. I typically recommend 20–40 mg daily. It’s a gentle, plant-based option that many women find incredibly helpful in reducing PMS symptoms over time.

4. DIM — For Estrogen Balance

DIM (Diindolylmethane) helps the body process and eliminate excess estrogen — a common issue in PMS. Unlike medications that block estrogen, DIM promotes healthier metabolism of hormones, which is crucial for restoring balance. A dose of 100–200 mg daily, starting about one to two weeks before your cycle, is a great starting point.

Putting It All Together

If you’re struggling with PMS, know that you’re not alone — and you don’t have to just “deal with it.” With the right guidance and support, natural options like these can help you feel more in control of your body and your cycle.
